About me

Nutrition and movement: seeing the whole person

I am Giovanni De Flaviis, Nutritionist Biologist and Kinesiologist. My background brings together two closely connected worlds: nutrition science and movement science.

My experience in sport, in football and in the gym, taught me first hand what the body needs during physical activity, from improving body composition to optimising performance.

I do not simply write a meal plan: I build a programme that takes into account nutrition, physical activity, body composition, lifestyle, daily habits and personal goals.

Why a personalised approach

There is no perfect diet that works for everyone

There is, however, a path built around the person, their needs and their daily life. Success is not measured only by a number on the scale, but by building healthy habits that keep the results over time.

01

Evidence based

Nutrition strategies supported by the literature, not food trends.

02

Built around you

Habits, working hours, lifestyle, training: the plan fits your day.

03

Nutrition and movement

A double background in exercise science and human nutrition: the whole person.

04

Sustainable over time

No drastic or temporary fixes: sound habits that last.

My method

Every programme starts by listening to the person

From the first assessment to the nutrition plan, with periodic check-ups to track progress and adapt the programme to the results.

Listening

Full history: clinical, family, nutritional and sporting. Weight history and training history.

Assessment

Anthropometric assessment and body composition study with circumference measurement and BIA/BIVA.

Plan

A personalised plan built on habits, schedule, lifestyle, goals and type of training.

Check-ups

We track progress, assess the changes and adapt the programme.

What I measure

Success is not the number on the scale

FM

fat mass

FFM

fat-free mass

TBW

total body water

BMR

basal metabolic rate

Bioelectrical impedance shows how the body is actually changing, telling fat loss apart from any loss of lean mass.

Frequently asked

The questions I am asked most

How long is the first consultation and what should I bring?

It is the longest appointment of the programme, because it is where I collect everything I need: clinical, family, nutritional and sporting history, weight and training history, anthropometric assessment and body composition study with body circumference measurement and bioelectrical impedance (BIA/BIVA). Bring recent blood tests if you have them, and any documentation of conditions already diagnosed by your doctor. For the BIA it helps to arrive well hydrated and not straight after training.

Do I have to weigh all my food?

No. The plan is built around your habits, your working hours and your lifestyle: if weighing everything does not fit your day, it is not the right way. Measuring a few portions at the start can help you learn to judge them by eye, but the goal is independence: managing meals without a scale.

Can I eat out or have a pizza?

Yes. A nutrition plan that collapses the moment you go out for dinner is not a sustainable strategy. Meals out, lunches at work and social occasions are part of the programme from the start: they are part of real life, and that is where lasting habits are built.

How often are the check-ups?

We agree the frequency together, and it depends on the programme and the goal. At each check-up we review weight, body composition and how the plan is going, and adjust from there. The programme does not end when the plan is handed over: it is the tracking over time that shows how the body is really changing.

Do you offer online consultations?

The first consultation takes place at the practice, because assessing body composition with body circumference measurement and bioelectrical impedance requires being there in person. Follow-up check-ups are more flexible: if reaching the practice is difficult, write to me and we will find the most practical solution.

Do I need blood tests before coming?

They are not required to book the first appointment. If you have recent tests, do bring them: reading blood work is part of the assessment and helps build a more precise plan. Blood tests are requested through your own doctor: as a nutritionist biologist I do not prescribe tests or make diagnoses.
